Cost for OpenFeint Free Game of The Day

Does anyone know the cost for OpenFeint Free Game of The Day promotion?

I don't know but I'm waiting to find out (I applied this week for my new game).

I really hope its affordable, FAAD wants $3000 (which I can't afford!)

I didn't know until recently that FAAD had a cost so I would like to know this as well.

EDIT: I initially spelled it FEED.

So no one knows? Is it top secret stuff?

I'm still waiting to hear back from OpenFeint (been almost a week now)... I hope its not unreasonable...

What are OpenFeint's eligibility requirements? I know I can read this on their site, but their document is a bit opaque and I'd love a simpler explanation if anyone can give it.

In particular, I'm wanting to know if displaying their logo in your app is required, and if so how exactly they require that you display their logo.

You can use OF without displaying their logo. But some of their services, game has to be approved by OF. There comes the requirement part. There is a document. But I cannot find it now. Basically you have to have options to display leaderboards, achievements etc. Display their logo at some places. My app is already approved. I found the rules are not that strict.

Thanks for explaining that you don't need the logo in order to use OF, but I was especially wondering about eligibility for this Free Game of the Day. As long as we're wondering about cost, I'm also curious about logo requirements.

Right now I'm tweaking the icon for my app and I'm wondering if I need the OF badge in the corner. If it's not required then I'll probably leave it off, but I'm guessing it is required.

You do not need the OF icon in the corner of app icon.

ok thanks, then I'll probably leave it off.

Its over a year since I checked so things may have changed, but there did not used to be an up front cost for Free Game Of The Day, they simply took a cut of any increased earnings for 2 weeks afterwards.

Thanks Dell. I am waiting to hear back from OF. It has been a week or so.

Free Game of the Day doesn't cost anything to enter.

If your game gets approved, they'll email you instructions on when to set your game to free and on what date.

What they'll have you do is have you sign a contract stating that you'll provide them with sales data for a specific period of time before your promo day and after.

I think it's something like 7 days before and after, but it could be different (give or take a week).

When my game was featured on OpenFeint's Free Game of the Day, I had to split revenue 50/50 for a specific amount of days after the promotion (I forget exactly how many days). You also have to provide them sales/download data via a spreadsheet that they'll send you.

If your game is already free (with in-app purchases), you'll instead share your in-app purchase revenue.

Payment is due within 60 days after your promotion day (so plenty of time to be paid by Apple, and then use that same money to pay them).

Keep in mind that this was MONTHS ago, so it could be different now--but it's likely not much has changed with their policies since then, I still recommend checking in with them to be 100% sure.

Personally, I liked it better than a flat-rate, because it opens the service up for more people to participate... you only pay from what you make, so no matter what you shouldn't lose money.

Hope that helps!

Thanks for the info Jon. I'm still waiting to hear back from OF so I'm thinking they may not want to put it up... Oh well

OMG, jonathanbeebe is ANSCA's programmer?? We didn't know about this until today.

Thanks for your sharing.

Thank you so much for explaining about your experience jon. Yeah that sounds like a great deal.

Thanks Jon for the detail info and congrats for being part of ANSCA team.

PS: Your name is in the credit of my app "Color Blaster Game".

Wow congrats Jon on the new job! I hope that doesn't mean the end of your game production.

I would venture a guess that developing more open-source games is precisely why they hired him.
