I know Corona has support for Networking, but does anyone know if it will allow an app to be created which will...

send a message from one iphone, directly to another iPhone only feet away, wirelessly (eg. WiFi, Bluetooth) ?

I know texting can achieve the same result, but what I have in mind is a bit more involved. Just want to know if the basics can be achieved.

Not entirely sure this can be done directly but can be easily done if you put a messaging server in the middle that your app logs into and then does the mediation between the two devices.

Not sure if this is something you want, maybe someone else can help further...
