Does Pixels/Inch matter, iOS?

Hi,

I know for retina display I can have a graphic extension @2 for double sized graphics, but my question is does Pixels/Inch matter? I am using Adobe Fireworks to create my graphics and under image size I can select a Pixels/Inch resolution but I am pretty sure it makes no difference for device screens as long as I am doubling the size of the graphic. What say you?

Thanks!

Pixels per inch only matters for print. With computer screens resolution varies too much from monitor to device to measure.

With mobile devices we don't have the problem of someone running 1024x768 resolution on a 21" monitor vs someone running 1600x1200 on a 17" monitor. So you could do pixel per inch math if you wanted too, but its easier to simply deal with resolution and not factor in inches.

iPhones are 320x480 pixels
iPhone 4's are 640x960
iPads are 1024x768

But lets say the new iPhone 5 comes out with a bigger screen, but the same 640x960 resolution. If you plan for inches then you will be off with the new devices.

Hi!

Thanks for the detailed reply, I appreciate it. That clears it up!
