Detect Time Zone for os.date()?

Hi everybody,

I'm working on an app with a small feature that counts the number of days, hours, minutes, and seconds that have elapsed from an exact point in time (specifically the time of Chinese artist Ai Weiwei's detention by the Chinese authorities on April 3rd). I'm able to make this work to a degree, but I've thusfar been unable to account for the difference in hours depending on the user's time zone. It's nitpicky, I know, but I'd like to be as pinpoint-accurate as I can with this.

Does anybody know of a way to detect the user's time zone so that I can add or subtract the difference in hours between time zones to get an accurate result? Thanks in advance for your help!

Best,
Jason

I second this question. It seems like an easy thing to figure out but I can't find an answer to this one anywhere. Anyone?
