table view with masking for scrolling within a fractional part of the screen

Has anyone enhanced or rewritten Gilberts table_view library to support non-full screen mode? Meaning that the scrolling list moves inside of a masked window, and does not take up the whole screen?

If anyone knows about something like this, I'd really appreciate a link
