Can anyone explain what this window is? My pinball soccer game has a two player mode and sometimes the top player, while dragging and firing his flippers, drags this window out from the top edge.

That is the built-in message center that comes with iOS5. I don't think there is any way to disable it.

It is available all the time during any app by swiping your finger down from the top of the screen.

What you could do is force your app to run only in Landscape orientation in your build.settings. Then the notifications tab would be at one of the long sides and not the short ones.
